Napoleon Dynamite

Napoleon Dynamite is a breath of fresh air. Back when Napoleon Dynamite first released late 2004, it was one of a kind, ever since it has had many wannabe movies trying to copy the style. I can't believe that it has been 4+ years since the movie first came out. I have seen the movie at least 5 times and each time has been either funnier or just as funny as the last. I think the reason for the success of Napoleon Dynamite was the originality, when you come out with a movie that is so original like this, its difficult to "try too hard". A movie that tried too hard to be Napoleon Dynamite was "Nacho Libre", the same type of music and videography. Both Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre were directed by Jared Hess, one funny guy, but Nacho Libre fell a little short. Napoleon Dynamite is full of one liners that if repeated anywhere in public, 90% of the people around would recognize. The movie is about Napoleon, a high school nerd that makes friends with the new guy, Pedro Sanchez. The plot of the movie doesn't have much to do with how funny it is, the situations Napoleon gets himself into is what makes this movie. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it, which is probably not many of you.
I rate this movie a 9 out of 10 on the comedy scale.

88 Minutes (Al Pacino)

Filmed mostly in 2006-2007, 88 minutes was released in 2007. 88 minutes is an intellectual thriller, it is about a man named Dr. Jack Gramm (Al Pacino) and his brush with a serial killer, Jon Forster (Neal McDonough). The movie is one of "those" movies, where you have to always be guessing who the killer is. Jon Avnet did a stellar job directing this movie and keeping the audience to a limited knowledge of the killer. Al Pacino played a laid back, cocky Phyciatrist that teaches at a university and testifies in homicide court cases. One of the serial killers that Dr Gramm put behind bars is now on death row and claims he is innocent. As Dr. Gramm's misfortunes occur, you can't help wonder who is helping Jon Forster from the outside. You will learn the two different meanings of 88 minutes, and the parallels of the two, the first one of course is that Al Pacino has 88 minutes left to live, and as for the second, you will have to watch the movie to understand it. All of the actors and actresses played their individual parts well, the all-star cast included Al Pacino, Neal McDonough, Alicia Witt, Leelee Sobieski, and William Forsythe. The movie takes place in Seattle Washington, although it was mainly filmed in B.C. Canada. The one thing I noticed about the hype compared to the actual movie, is that the movie seemed like it was going to have a lot of "fast paced" action, it doesn't, it is a lot more of a thriller than an action flick.

Step Brothers

Step Brothers with Will Ferrell and John Reilly has the typical Ferrell humor with a little bit of a twist. This movie does throw in quite a bit of nostalgic childhood memories. Ever remember the meaningless arguments that you got into with your siblings? Well, this movie hits the nail on the head. Although it is the typical Ferrell humor, the mix between sibling rivalry and confused adulthood is quite hilarious. I didn't expect to like this movie as much as I did, but Ferrell and Reilly make a great combination. The two play middle-aged men that still live with their parents. It is only when their two parents get married that they are faced with reality of real life, and we as spectators are along for the ride. The supporting actors and their stories all add a refreshing unique humor to the story that just makes the movie great. I really did enjoy this movie, I would recommend it especially if you're a fan of Talladega Nights and Anchorman.

Australia

I'm never a huge fan of Nicole Kidman because I feel she is often typecast and plays the same character in ever other movie she makes. Hugh Jackass, opps I mean Jackman is really not my favorite either but I figured I give the movie a chance because of this crazy black dude in the picture and the little kid that sings and does crazy voodoo magic. Well, as it turns out the two obscure characters I went to see were the best actors in the film and if it wasn't for them I probably would have walked out on this one. The movie takes place in old school Australia back in the 30's or somewhere around that time frame. Nicole Kidman plays her textbook proper English woman that gets thrown into a ruff and tuff situation and has to adapt to the wild Australian outback and run a cattle farm operation. Lammmmmee-O! Hugh Jackman plays a traveling rover (cattle round-up guy) that ends up helping Kidman run her cattle farm. The witch doctor (guy in the pic) and his grandson are somehow thrown into this never ending soppy love story and are doing cool and mysterious voodoo type magic. They are pretty cool but way out of context. Overall this movie was way too long and didn't have to much substance. Actually I pretty much hated it, in fact if you see this movie I hate you. Just kidding!
